Why pre-owned process equipment and industrial plants?
Although the pre-owned equipment might not be a perfect fit to the requirements of a designed project but can be re-engineered to meet the requirements. On-time procurement of equipment is always a challenge for EPC supply chains. Lead time of pre-owned equipment is notably shorter than the fabrication time of a tailored equipment thus can be a fast-track solution where the time is a constraint. Lower capital cost (CAPEX) of pre-owned equipment and plants could be a real interest for the buyers and operation companies.
Procurement process (P) is the most time taking of the EPC projects. Getting quote from vendors, Technical Bid Evaluation (TBE) when there are multiple vendors, technical clarifications, vendor selection and fabrication stage of equipment all will take a notable part of project lifecycle. With selection of pre-owned equipment several of these stages will be skipped and time will be saved accordingly.

Performance Warranty Package (PWP) is a worry free package including the documents and certificates of vendors, Factory Acceptance Test (AFT) certificates and engineering assessments. This package pre-certifies the adequacy of equipment for the new application and will be part of the deliverable documents to buyers prior to the shipment. - After completion of pre-certification stage and installation of equipment at buyer’s site, site performance test (SPT) will be carried out by buyers operation team and presence of seller’s and NaphtEn’s representatives based on the applicable codes and standards. SPT completion documents will be part of PWP. Disclaimer Note: mentioned stages in PWP can be varied depends on the type of equipment and agreements of the parties.
Let’s first see what happens to a pre-owned equipment or materials if it’s not re-used? Abandoned equipment needs to be recycled at some point if it’s not re-used. Recycling process needs specific resources of energy to get completed successfully. This includes power for re-melting the metals, environmental pollution resulting from recycling processes, dumping the non-recyclable parts of equipment and many other factors, from buyer side as well, providing a new equipment contributes in the similar impacts on the resources and environment
